TOday I installed my ECU (props goto ash for this, he's great) and boost jets (.045's). I was all ready to go and see what it feels like to have 430bhp under your foot. I noticed that the jets were spiking to 16psi, then staying at 15psi. All good, but heres the bad part. Very loud detonation. Detonation on 15psi? Took it back in the garage and hooked up a timing light. I then found out I was running 29 degrees timing!! No wonder it was detonating so bad, but never detonated before I upped the boost. Lowered it to 15 and no more detonation. FOr anyone going to stg.3, make sure you check your timing with a good digital timing light before raising boost levels from stock. Higher boost levels are OK for a stock config, but will damage your engine with raised boost.
-"Chains baby, chains.......Z will grip like a champ. (n/m) - Wolf [Pittsburgh] 14:56:58 05/10/00" How to Check Turbos: "1st remove exhaust and pre-cats. Then fire that mother up, rev it to at least 5000 rpm and then stick your finger into the hole on the back of the turbo. If the turbine grinds your finger down, then your turbo is working. If your finger gets ground off farther than the second knuckle, then your turbos are good for at least another 60k miles! Don't forget to check both sides." -I am Z-ing Double |
